HP EliteBook x360 1040 G6

Hey Guys

I have a litte special problem with products of HP. It's a Notebook X360 (SN:[edit] Windows 10 Pro 2004) which is connected to a Thunderbolt Dockingstation G2 ([edit]). The Dockingstation is connected to an external Screen over Displayport. Well now i have following problems: As soon as an external HDD is connected to the Dockingstation the Notebook can not correctly start. It shows the HP Boot Logo and a spinning circle. After this the Screen is going to sleep and starts up and shows again the Boot Logo and the spinning circle. After 3 times Windows comes with the message it can't start correctly.

The external HDD is formated, i have the same problems with an other brand an diffrent size. It doesn't matter if something on the external HDD or not. The Bios has the Version 01.05.03, the Dockingstation 50.1.0.0.1. I changed the Laptop with the same model and got the same result. Same affect with an other Dockingstation. I tested it with Windows 1909 and Windows 2004. I think the Version 2004 is more affected than 1909 but both Versions got the problem. I tried different Bios settings (e.x. Secure Boot off, ignoring USB at startup). I can't really reproduce the problem, it occurs more often in advance and sometimes less..
Does anyone have similar experiences with this setup?

Thank's and best regards

Hello

I don't like HP Support Assistant. I never install it.

I prefere to use HP Image Assistant. it's a portable solution that do not install any service running in background.

This is may personal preference.

Hello

I never heard something like that, but I will try to reproduce it as I've tha hardware needed.

I have1909.

Not sure which BIOS version I have, in case mine is older I'll update to 01.05.03, the Dockingstation 50.1.0.0.1.

Please use always SecureBoot Enable.

could you please share UEFI boot order.

Hello

before to do any change to my hardware I tryed to boot.

connected a 2TB Hard disk to the USB 3.0 port by the side of the docking.

DOcking Thunderbolt G2 has firmware version 1.0.60  , there is newer one 1.062.1.

Before I do more test, could you check and eventually Update Firmware of the docking ?

Hello

I will update the BIOS to 1.05.03 and TB g2 dock to 01.0.62.1 and see waht happens

your UEFI boot order is the standard one.

I guess Seagate BUP Portable is your esternal USB hard disk.

at which USB port of the docking do you connected it ?

Hello

I updated the X1040 G6 BIOS.

I updated the TB G2 docking fimrware to 1.0.62.1

my notebooks always star fine.

what you can try more is:

insert a USB key on you notebook

Enter BIOS setup

save BIOS setting to USB key.

apply factory default and exit.

check if system boot fine.

Then enter again in BIos Setting

reload you setting from USB key.

Save it

Hey

Right, the Seagate BUP Portable is the external HDD. I connected the HDD on all USB Ports on the Dockingstation with the same result. Mainly is it connected on the side USB with the lightning symbol.

OK i restored the BIOS to the factory defaults but it's not helping.

As i got the Notebook i did a clean install with Win10. The Bios and the other stuff i updated with the HP Support Assistant. Did you see a problem with the Support Assistant?

I tried it with an other Dockingstation-Model (HP E27d G4). If the notebook connected with this Dockingstation (include external HDD) it's starting fine.

Hey

Yes, i don't like it too but it was easier to update a lot of notebooks on the same time.. anyway i downloaded today the HP Image Assistant (i didn't know that tool). There was a lot of updates (which are not available on the HP Support Assistant). And look, today the notebook starts fine.. i will test it at the next day's and come back to you

Hey

Since i run the HP Image Assistant the notebook starts always fine.. I'm not really sure what's the difference between the HP Image Assistant and the HP Support Assistant but in the future i will use always the Image Assistant.

Thank you for helping and testing on your site.

Best Regards
