Bootup issues

HP Recommended
Notebook 17-p120wm

I am trying to fix my dads laptop and when I turned it on it gave me a message that ill post a picture of. Basically its mad that the internal temp is too high and is going into hibernation because of overheating. I have opened up the laptop and used an air compressor gently to clear out debris around the fan. I made sure that everything was connected before I put it back together. I am now trying to update the BIOS and the laptop keeps abruptly turning off and then when I press the power button and boots back up the the update screen and retries the update and then gets to between 10 and 30 percent and then shuts down

The on-screen message says hibernation or shutdown -- and my guess is that it was shutdown.

The issue with thermal crashes like this is that they can damage the processor such that the PC will not work properly again, even after letting it cool down.

You need to run hardware diagnostics to see what else is wrong with it.  To do that, you press the Esc key repeatedly while rebooting, and when you get the HP Startup Menu, select the option for diagnostics -- usually F2.
