I too have the same freezing up issue and have had for a year. I have upgraded to Win 10 and this did not impact the random freezes. It requires a hard re-boot. All updates are complete, I run AV virus at all times. I wonder if it is the AMD processers versus the Intel. The posts all seem to reference the A8 processor.

Did upgrading to Windows 10 solve the issue with the freezing? I've had this HP Envy 15 Touchscreen Laptop for over a year now and have had problems since day 1. It constantly freezes when I'm in any browser - IE, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, you name it. The monitor also constantly turns black at night while the PC is still powered on. Keep in mind that I work in IT so I've tried everything under the sun and still so many issues. HP was not helpful last year when I first reached out for help. Instead they kept giving me the run around. It's actually quite embarassing since I worked at HP during an internship many moons ago. Matter of fact, my last hp laptop lasted for like 7 years and if it had not finally crashed, I would probably still be using it. Not sure who is making the newer models but I am very disappointed! If anyone has a solution to the freezing problem, it would be greatly appreciated.

A few months ago (December) I downloaded the latest drivers from HP and my "restart" function began working. Elated. That didn't last long. The other day I downloaded the latest network/lan driver for the HP-15, to include entering my complete model #; HP15-f033fm. It was a 19 March 2016 RealTek driver. So far, so good. I don't expect it to last. Had I researched this model as I do everything else I buy of significance, I would have passed on it. Great little laptop minus the restart deal. Unlike yours, my only issue has been the restart function freezing when trying to restart. It would freeze thus requiring a hard boot. Hope you get a remedy for yours.

I've had this issue for almost two years and all HP says is to ensure BIOS is updated and all drivers are updated. HP has never found a resolution for the problem. Please note: there are at least 20 others in this forum with the exact same issue.

July 2016... Same problem here. Looking at the number of views this thread gets... I would say this is a widespread issue. It is clearly a hardware problem that won't get addressed.
Tech Support was not help at all. Didn't even ask me the problem or try to understand what is happening.... They just assumed I had a virus and out of disk space.... on a laptop that had about 10 hrs of use. I had to tell the tech support person to just stop and get off my pc... they were wasting my time and theirs. He didn't check the drivers, event viewer, my model... nothing .. just started deleting stuff and blaming a virus (that was never there).
I have 20 yrs IT consulting ... and this is by far the most weird hardware flaw I've seen and HP's tech must be a bunch of six grade nerds behind a desk. They don't know much about computers.

BTW ... I did end up solving this issue. There was BIOS update released Mid-2016. This along with a shut-down of windows update helped solve the issue. We have to manually update Windows from here, which isn't a bad thing.

I have the exact issue on my brand new HP ENVY 13-ab016nr, since this thread deals with freezing on the browser level, I decided to post here. The last BIOS update (like mentioned) has helped but I'm still getting the freezes in Chrome and Opera but just less than before. Since this seems to be a widespread issue on this model I am considering returning it, which is a shame because otherwise it's a great laptop.
