Ok so I started to get a error bios 502 on my HP Notebook - 15-da0031nr during the bios startup so I replaced my battery which didnt hold power anymore. the replacement went smoothly and seemed to work fine , the battery was charging fully and lasting for many hours but thenI noticed if I shut down my computer and left the screen lid open then it restarted fine but if I CLOSED my latop lid screen and then tried to press the start button I got nothing and I do mean nothing . I had to plug the laptop in or it would not start at all and only after holding the start button for 10 seconds while plugged in did it start and with the 502 error showing to press return which i did. I flashed the bios to the most current version that was listed on HP site which was a windows 10 version , I am runnning windows 11 pro. so something is causeing the laptop to NOT start after closing the screen, I changed all setting in the power control such as what to do if the lid is closed and so on and nothing made a difference still getting the 502 error and no boot after the lid is closed with no power connected to it. So what else ? From what I seen whenthe laptop was opened , I did not see a cmos battery so figuring its built into the battery that I already replaced. here is a link to the battery I replaced it with.. Any ideas????

Have you run diagnostics?
Tap the ESC key after powering on. . Tap it once a second after you see the LEDs on the keyboard flash. When you see the startup menu, press F2 to run diagnostics.
Do not allow any updates if disk or memory fail, especially a BIOS update.
Go into the BIOS setup using the F10 function key. Check that the local date and time are correct, press the function key F9 to set defaults, make sure secure boot is enabled, press F10 to exit and be sure to save your settings.

It is not waking up from sleep or it's not properly going to sleep. You need to run a sleep report

Thank you for your reply here is what I did,
Ok Ive done lots of this before but will do it again as you request.
Have you run diagnostics?
Yes
Tap the ESC key after powering on. . Tap it once a second after you see the LEDs on the keyboard flash. When you see the startup menu, press F2 to run diagnostics. Do not allow any updates if disk or memory fail, especially a BIOS update.
All PASSED!
Go into the BIOS setup using the F10 function key. Check that the local date and time are correct, press the function key F9 to set defaults, press F10 to exit and be sure to save your settings.
Time and date were correct!
Bios was reset and saved!
Restarted the laptop and started but once I closed the lid waited 15 seconds and opened the lid and press the restart I got Nothing , had to plug laptop in and hold the start button for 5 seconds to get it back to the CMOS error 502 page before pressing enter to run it.
I ran both the energy report and the sleep study will post them here

Thank you for providing those power plans they were very interesting. Your system is set up to use hybrid sleep. Hybrid sleep is typically used (the default) by desktops not by laptops.
Using the windows "control panel" what does your power button plan show for when the lid is closed?
If it shows hibernate can you change it to sleep?
502 possible fix------you have have done this already----
1. Turn off the computer. |
-----give yourself a new hibernate file----this can fix problems with windows fast start
To get a new hiberfile do the following. Enter 'CMD' in the windows search and select 'run as administrator'.
Be sure to close other apps to avoid losing data during the hibernation.
powercfg -h off powercfg -h on shutdown /h |
|
Note that Windows fast start using the hibernation file.
The Fast Startup feature in Windows allows your computer start up faster after a shutdown. When you shut down your computer, Fast Startup will put your computer into a hibernation state instead of a full shutdown. Fast Startup is enabled by default if your computer is capable of hibernation |
Make sure your system is working correctly. If a device is not working when you create the hibernation file, that device will be marked as not working every time your system resumes. This will be true even if the device is fixed.
----see if there are firmware updates for your disk drive as it is used in hybrid sleep.
There are 10 firmware updates here but possibly with a custom system you might have a different SSD
Using the windows command prompt, please run the following command and report back what it reveals if you want help.
wmic diskdrive get model, size, mediaType, status |
for example
If you have powershell then run it from the administrators command prompt to get better information:
powershell Get-PhysicalDisk |
If you have samsung or westerndigital there is a firmware updater here

thank you for all this info I did each and everyone and it failed to resolve the problem I then used Samsung disk magician since I have a samsung ssd to check for updates and there was a new update but after installing the update the issue still occures, I really believe the issue has something to do the the cmos battery but since the batteries are one, I am beginng to question 502 error and after looking at other posts here and inthe web I never found anyone that actually resolved the 502 error when occuring with this new battery style. I will continue to look but unles its a update that is missing that may comeout inthe future my thoughts are getting fruitless and thinking it may be useless...

The only thing I can think of is that possibly it's not a genuine HP battery and it's not being recognized properly as a result
Please run the battery report and post the summery if you want
you run the battery report by bringing up the administrator command window and running
powercfg/batteryreport |
as shown below
After entering that explorer line you should see something like the following. You will have to click on it as it is long
https://stateson.net/docs/SP4_battery-report.html
Have you done a battery calibration?
There should be a serial number for the battery. The battery may not be identified with the letters HP instead there could be a code for the manufacturer.

Ok so here is the batterry report you will see when I replaced it on 8-11-2024 Hope this gives some help to determine what is wrong..
one other thing when i set the laptop top sleep and close the the lid even if unplugged it will turn back on soon as I open it so this only occurs when I select shutdown and unplug power and close the lid.
