Pavilion Gaming 15 cx0000
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So, according to the product specification I got 3 3.1 USB Gen1 ports on my Pavilion Gaming 15 (2018). Neither one of them won't recognize my USB 3.0 flash drive with Windows 10 (1809). I tried formatting in both MBR and GPT. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • When was the last time it worked fine?
  • Have you tried with the different USB flash drive?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps:

Let’s quickly check whether computer detects the drive when you plug it in.

  • First, plug the USB removable drive into your computer if it isn’t already.
  • Then open the Disk Management by pressing the Windows Key + X (or right-click the Start button) to open the Disk Management from the list. You can also open the Run dialog with Windows + R and enter diskmgmt.msc to open this utility.
  • If you're seeing the external drive listed in the Disk Management window as "Removable"
this means its corrupted partition/drive. You must consider using a new drive.

Also, you can try uninstalling the drive.

  1. In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.

  2. Search for the USB controller

  3. Disconnect the device.

  4. Right-click Unknown Device, and select Uninstall.

The Confirm Device Uninstall window opens.

  5. Click the box next to Delete the driver software for this device (if it is shown).

  6. Click OK.

  7. Restart the computer. Click here to know more on Troubleshooting USB Connections

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
