Hi @BethHetico,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

1. Use Microsoft Account Password

If your computer is linked to a Microsoft account, you can use your Microsoft account password to sign in:

  1. On the login screen, select Sign-in options just below the PIN entry box.
  2. Choose the Password option.
  3. Enter your Microsoft account password to sign in.

2. Reset Microsoft Account Password

If you also forgot your Microsoft account password, you can reset it using a different device:

  1. Go to the Microsoft Recover your account page.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to reset your password.

3. Use Local Account

If you're using a local account and forgot the password such that PIN reset is not possible:

Restart the computer and enter the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE):

  • Turn on your computer and when you see the Windows logo, hold the power button until the device turns off.
  • Repeat this process 2-3 times until you see a Please wait message.

Select Troubleshoot:

  • Navigate to Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
  • Choose Remove everything or Keep my files, depending on whether you want to keep your personal files.
  • Follow the prompts to reset your computer.

4. Windows 11 Safe Mode

Use Safe Mode to troubleshoot and bypass the PIN login issue:

Boot into Safe Mode:

  • Hold the Shift key and select Restart.
  • Navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
  • Choose Enable Safe Mode.

Access Settings:

  • Once in Safe Mode, go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
  • Remove or reset your PIN.

5. System Restore (if enabled)

If you have enabled System Restore on your computer, you may roll back to a previous state:

Boot into WinRE:

  • Repeat the steps to enter the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).

Select Troubleshoot:

  • Navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > System Restore.

Restore:

  • Follow the on-screen instructions to restore your system to a previous point where you can access the system.

I hope this helps.
