Cannot open my laptop top cover. I "thought" I just lifted and it came up and open. Haven't used it for about 5 months and suddenly it seems locked closed. What should I do to open the top cover so I can use it?

Are you maybe trying to open it from the wrong side? If you look down at the top of your closed laptop with the front end facing you, the "HP" logo should be upside down.
I am an HP employee.
