I press the power button, it tries to start but powers down automatically. Then it automatically repeats the same process without me pressing the power button

So I did a step-by-step diagnosis of the hardware. First I removed the battery and tried running it on AC, didn't work. Then I removed the right RAM, on AC, tried running, worked. Out of curiosity, I put the right RAM back and took off left RAM, worked. Then I put back both RAM and plugged in the battery, worked for few minutes and system stopped responding. Upon force power off and restart, the same thing happened. So I removed the right RAM again and put everything else back, it worked and never stopped working. It is fine now. Just my RAM went from 16gigs to 8gigs but something is better than nothing. So, I'm happy. 

 

First, I didn't want to open up my laptop cause had never done it before. But I got out of comfort zone, bought tools for 20 bucks, will cost less (I made a mistake). The point is, if you're careful and responsible with the right tutorial, don't hesitate to do something you haven't done. It feels like a good experience after youryo done.

Sorry, but any time a laptop simply refuses to turn on, that tend to indicate a serious hardware failure.

 

Software failures invariably present with error messages of some kind on the screen, such as No Operating System or No Boot Device. In these cases, reinstalling the OS from media such as DVD or USB fixes the first; rebuilding the boot records using various utilities fixes the second.

But, if those do not succeed, we have no way of diagnosing or repairing your PC from here.

 

If your PC is still under the original one-year HP warranty, or if you have purchased an extended warranty from HP and this is still valid, then you should contact HP Customer Support to see about having it repaired or replaced under warranty.
