I have a HP 1000-1b09AU that can not start, caps lock flashes, and display blank. But before i tried to use its DDR3 memory (1,28 V) module in another laptop (ASUS A42F) with higher voltage (1,5 V). Is this really a RAM failure or is there anything else i can check / repair? Before i did this mistake i checked that all DDR3 (including DDR3L) should pass a JEDEC standard (1,5 V), but why this could happen?
Thank you.

Hi @Anon6,
Thanks for visiting the HP community. 🙂 A very good day to you! 🙂 I read the post regarding issues with the computer not booting to windows with a flashing capslock key. I will be delighted to assist you here. 🙂You’ve done an excellent job on diagnosing the issue from your end. Superb effort and spectacular research were done as well. 🙂 Kudos to you on that score. 🙂
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:
- Did this happen after a bios update?
- Did it occur after a recent power outage or surge?
It definitely looks like a hardware issue with the computer.
For now please perform these steps:
- Please perform a hard reset from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768
and then try to power on the notebook.
- If it does not power on then please try to roll back the bios from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02693833
- Please ensure to try both the steps from this link. If the first method doesn’t work, download the bios for this computer from another computer to a USB flash stick and follow the steps to restore the bios using the second USB flash drive method.
- This should do the trick for you if it is only a corrupted bios and not a component failure.
- If the issue persists, then perform all the relevant steps from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-1000-1b00-notebook-pc-series/5343010/model/7049601/document/... and perform the most relevant steps that match your current situation correctly.
- Please follow these options from the link mentioned above
- Try this first: Use the HP Guided Solution.
- LED lights blink but the computer does not start
- Troubleshooting other issues with computer not starting
If nothing works, please contact HP phone support to get it repaired.
- HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en/?openCLC=true
- Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
- Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
- Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
- Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
They will be happy to assist you immediately.
If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty should take care of it for you
Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. This should do the trick for you. Going by your post, I can perceive that you are technically very competent. So with your profound expertise, you should be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
