hi, made Microsoft 22H2 update few days ago (after 14.10.2025) and made a restart. After that cannot log in. It shows there is Outlook account and protection code is a phone number which doesn't exist anymore and needs an update. Also get a note that computer is off-line (but seems to be connected)  Contacted Microsoft support to try to change phone number but it wont open. Is there any chance to go round to get the Pc working?

This is my spouce's pc to write this message and fortunately there at least one pc working. 🙂

Waiting for your reply.

Best regards,

Hi @Silli1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I truly understand how frustrating and helpless it can feel when your PC locks you out after an update, especially when the recovery phone number is no longer valid. Let’s walk through the steps to help you regain access to your PC after the Windows 11 22H2 update, which seems to have triggered a login issue due to outdated Outlook account recovery settings and offline authentication errors.

Step-by-Step Recovery Guide from HP Support

1. Try Safe Mode to Bypass Login Issues

Sometimes, booting into Safe Mode can help bypass the login screen and allow you to troubleshoot from within Windows.

  • On the login screen, hold down the Shift key and click Restart.
  • Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart.
  • Press 4 to boot into Safe Mode.
  • If successful, you can create a new local account using Command Prompt:
               net user NewUsername /add
               net user NewUsername NewPassword
  • Restart and log in with the new account.

2. Use Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE)

If Safe Mode doesn’t work, try Startup Repair:

  • Boot using a Windows installation USB or recovery media.
  • Select your language > Click Repair your computer.
  • Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Repair.

3. Roll Back the Update

If the issue started after the update, rolling back might help:

  • In WinRE, go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Uninstall Updates.
  • Choose Uninstall latest feature update.

4. BitLocker Key Prompt

If prompted for a BitLocker key, it’s usually stored in your Microsoft account:

If you don’t see the key, and the device isn’t listed, it may not have synced properly. In that case, you may need to reset Windows while keeping files.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
