The laptop is producing doot sound every ten seconds with caps lock sparkling at a 5 slow and 3 fast. If possible, I can provide a clip. What is wrong with the laptop?

Hi @disappeared1234,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

HP laptops use a blink code system to help diagnose hardware issues when the laptop cannot start up properly.

In your case, the pattern of 5 slow blinks followed by 3 fast blinks typically indicates a General System Board failure (also known as a motherboard failure). This is a serious hardware issue that can prevent your laptop from starting.

Here are a few steps you can try to further diagnose or potentially fix the issue.

Power Reset:

  • Disconnect the laptop from any power source.
  • Remove the battery if it's removable.
  • Hold down the power button for about 15-20 seconds to drain any residual power.
  • Reconnect the power source (and reinsert the battery if it was removed), then try to turn on the laptop again.

Check for Loose Connections:

  • If you are comfortable opening your laptop, check for any loose connections or improperly seated components, such as RAM, hard drive, or other internal hardware.

External Hardware Reset:

  • Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, external monitors, printers, etc.) and try starting the laptop again.

Reseat RAM:

  • If you are comfortable doing so, try removing and reseating the RAM sticks. Sometimes, improperly seated RAM can cause startup issues.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it is likely that the motherboard has failed and will need to be repaired or replaced.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
