Hi,
Please i have a challenge. I set up Power-on Authentication on my HP EliteBook x360 1030 G2 running Windows 10 pro from Hp Client Security. System required a restart after setup. On restart, I couldnt find my username but could only find a .../defaultuser1 username, without any other option, which requested for a password. I dont have any other account created on my system apart from my normal account which is my microsoft account.
Kindly assist pls.
WHAT I HAVE TRIED
- power drain by holding the power button for 30secs while system is plugged to power supply
- Multiple restarts (over 10 times) to see if m yusername will eventually appear
- contacted Hp global which referred me to Hp service center in my region (Nigeria).
- visited the hp center in Nigeria but did not get any positive response apart from them stating the need to replace motherboard
Please I also did a BIOS update sometime this year. Cant remember exactly when.
I look forwardto your responses.
Thanks much

If HP Service Center can only suggest replacing systemboard I'm not sure anyone here can help with other suggestions. Perhaps @IT_WinSec might have some ideas since he has an Elitebook.

Hi @Enceeprime
Thank you for posting in the HP Support Community.
It might be tricky but we just need to be 100% clear... the "Power-on Authentication" you set from within HP Client Security while running Windows is a type of preboot authentication [PBA] .
The Preboot authentication is the general term for all of them but is also the particular name for the one from HP Client Security related to the encryption of the drive. You can set PBA without encryption.
- If you did make it from HP Client Security while in Windows and if you refer to the example from above, this is a software protection and if you are unable to login there, a simple HDD formatting and Windows reinstallation will erase it and fix the problem => https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/EliteBook-very-slow-after-drive...
- If you did something else, and it is related to BIOS/UEFI passwords, users (http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03453264.pdf), then an SMC.bin file may help to reset the BIOS security but it needs to be provided by HP Support department => there is a TKB article => https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebooks-Knowledge-Base/Forgotten-BIOS-or-power-on-password-HP-Commer...
Consider the options just posted above. Let me/us know how it goes.
