I un-installed updates on my pc and then restarted it...it couldn't sign in...I then ended up resetting it (through troubleshoot then reset this pc). After resetting the pc, I can't log in as it keeps telling me 'The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted ' ... Can anyone help

Hi @Momo108,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like there might be an issue with your computer being disconnected from a domain network. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Check Network Connection

  1. Make sure that your computer is connected to the network: Check the network cables and Wi-Fi connections.

  2. Reconnect to the Domain Network: If you have access to network settings, try reconnecting to the domain.

Verify Domain Controller Availability

  1. Ensure the domain controller is operational: If you have access, verify that the domain controller is up and running.

Reset Network Settings

  1. Open the Command Prompt as an Administrator.

  2. Type the following commands one by one and hit Enter after each:
    • ipconfig /release
    • ipconfig /renew
    • ipconfig /flushdns
    • ipconfig /registerdns
  3. Restart your computer and try logging in again.

Rejoin Domain

If possible, and if you have IT assistance available:

  1. Go to the System Properties: Right-click on ‘This PC’, select ‘Properties’, and then ‘Advanced system settings’.

  2. Click on the ‘Computer Name’ tab and select ‘Change’.

  3. If your PC is still domain-joined but not functional, remove it from the domain, restart the computer, and then rejoin the domain.

Local Account Access

  1. Log in with a local account: If a local account is configured, it can be used to log in and perform domain rejoining or network troubleshooting.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
