Hi @Oshwoj,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The blinking caps lock light on an HP laptop is an indicator of a hardware issue, specifically with the system board or the graphics subsystem. The specific blink pattern you mentioned (5 long and 4 short) typically indicates a general system board failure.

Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue.

  1. Hard Reset:

    • Turn off the laptop.
    • Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, printers, etc.).
    • Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the laptop battery (if removable).
    • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
    • Reconnect the battery and AC adapter.
    • Turn on the laptop.
  2. Memory Module Reseating:

    • If you're comfortable, try reseating the RAM modules. This involves opening up the back panel of the laptop and ensuring that the RAM modules are securely connected.
  3. Check for Loose Connections:

    • Ensure that all internal connections (such as cables connecting the display) are secure. Again, this may require opening the laptop.
  4. External Display:

    • Connect the laptop to an external monitor using the appropriate cable. This can help determine if the issue is with the laptop's display or a more fundamental hardware problem.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
