Well, it has taken a while, but at long last I have now managed to completely reset my computer with OS on Disc ‘C’ and have now loaded many programmes onto Drive’D’. Now all seems to be OK. Just a couple of progs I have to sort out lost passwords. 
I would just like to thank you for your patience and all the help and advice you have given me. Had I thought to ask for advice sooner I would not have made such a mess of everything.

so, from one septuagenarian to another across the pond can I thank you most sincerely and wish you every blessing.
