Compaq Presario CQ70-100 Notebook PC series
Microsoft Windows Vista

Hello to you all,

I have a compaq Presario cq70 with a vista operating system.  After replacing the laptop battery, I received the following message:

Checksum error.

F1- to load CMOS default value

F10- to BIOS setup options

I see from other posts that my CMOS battery on the motherboard needs replacing.  But I am confused as to which option above I should select (F1 or F10).  I am computer illiterate.  Should I bring it into a PC repair location?  Thanks for all your assistence!!!!

Also now that I have a new laptop battery, do I need a new CMOS battery or will it run after selecting the proper F key based on your advice?

I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP and advice.  THANKS

Hi:

Unless you had set your own preferences for some things in the BIOS (such as boot order, and fan off when on AC power), just press F1 to load the BIOS defaults.

You may or may not need a new CMOS battery.  It depends if the main battery can also hold the BIOS and clock settings.
