@Denphil, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding a Chromebook Not Turning On!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
If your Chromebook is not turning on and you see a steady white LED light when connecting the charger, follow these steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
1. Perform a Visual Inspection
- Check for any damage to the charging port or signs of oxidation.
- Inspect the display for cracks or other physical damage.
2. Perform a Hard Reset
A hard reset forces the system to clear and re-establish the software connections between the BIOS and the hardware. This does not remove any local files or settings.
- Turn off the Chromebook.
- Press and hold the Refresh button, and then press the Power button while continuing to hold the Refresh button.
- Release the Refresh button after the Chromebook turns on.
3. Verify the Battery Charging Status
- Charge the Chromebook for at least 10 minutes or up to 24 hours as a smaller than normal charge current might be in effect if the battery is deeply discharged.
- If there is no noise from the computer case or fans, the lights on the computer do not turn on (including the keyboard lights), and the screen does not receive a video signal, your Chromebook might not be receiving power.
4. Check Battery Indicator Light Status
The color of the battery indicator light can help identify the issue:
- Green or white: The remaining capacity is 94% or higher, or the charger is initializing (15 seconds after plugging in the AC adapter).
- Amber: The remaining capacity is 94% or lower.
- Red: The computer cannot communicate with the battery.
5. Test the Battery Using HP Support Assistant
Install the HP Support Assistant extension from the Chrome Web Store and test the battery.
- Connect the AC adapter to the Chromebook.
- In HP Support Assistant, click Check your battery.
- Click Run battery check.
Based on the results of the battery check:
- If your Chromebook passed the battery check, disconnect your AC adapter and repeat the test. If the device still experiences problems, try resetting the Chromebook.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
