Hi! I’ve had my Chromebook for a few years now no issues with it ever, I haven’t used it in a few months so I went to charge it and the light was red and it wouldn’t turn on I figured it was because it had been dead for so long, looked it up and I seemed to be correct. Anyways, the light is now solid white when charging and the screen still won’t turn on, I held the arrow button and the power button to factory reset and then tried to turn it on still nothing. If I unplug it the light next to the charger turns off, no sign of anything just a black screen, please help!

Hi @Meg6188,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Chromebook 14 is not turning on, there are several possible reasons and troubleshooting steps you can try to identify and fix the issue. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you.
- Check the power source: Ensure that the Chromebook is connected to a power source and that the charging cable is properly connected to both the Chromebook and the power outlet. You may want to try a different power outlet or charger to see if the issue is related to the power source.
- Check the battery: If your Chromebook is not charging or powering on, there might be an issue with the battery. Try holding the power button down for at least 10 seconds to force a hard reset. Then, try turning it on again.
- Inspect the power button: Make sure that the power button is not stuck or physically damaged. Gently press the power button to ensure it moves freely.
- Reset the hardware: Perform a hard reset by disconnecting any peripherals (such as external mouse, keyboard, or USB devices) and turning off the Chromebook. Then, press and hold the Refresh key (which looks like a circular arrow) and the Power button simultaneously for about 10 seconds. Release the buttons and then try turning it on again.
- Check for LED indicators: When charging, most Chromebooks have LED indicators to show the charging status. If your Chromebook shows any LED lights when connected to the power source, observe their behavior as it may provide valuable information about the issue.
- Try a different charger: If you have access to another compatible charger, try using it to rule out the possibility of a faulty charger.
- Check the display: Sometimes, the Chromebook might be turning on, but the display remains black. Ensure the brightness level is set appropriately and try connecting the Chromebook to an external display (e.g., a monitor or TV) to see if the issue lies with the internal screen.
- Perform a hardware diagnostic: If you can't identify the problem, you can try running a hardware diagnostic test if your Chromebook provides such an option. The process may vary depending on the model.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
