Hi, my chromebook which I have owned for 2 years now won't turn on following a recent update. The charging lights work, the led on the side indicates it is fully charged. However, when I press the power button, nothing happens. The keyboard illuminates, but nothing more. Pressing the refresh and power button causes the led on the side to flash orange briefly, but no display. Pressing any button on the keyboard whilst the backlights are off turns them on until the key is released.
I have attempted:
Holding refresh and power for 10 seconds (both plugged in and not)
Holding esc, refresh, and power for 10 seconds (both plugged in and not)
Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery
Leaving the laptop on charge for 2 days
Any ideas what could be the issue? I am wondering perhaps a display issue but there were no indications of the display starting to go.
Thanks, Alex

Hi @Alex7710,
Welcome to HP Support Community. This is a great place to post questions and find answers.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I see that you are facing black screen issues with your HP Chromebook.
I suggest that you perform a hard reset on the unit by following the steps listed below.
1. Press the power button and refresh button for five seconds. The computer turns off and then turns on again.
2. If necessary, press the power button again to turn on the laptop.
If the issue persists, then I suggest that you follow the steps from this document for Chromebook Recovery: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03665293
Note: Recovery permanently erases everything on your Chromebook's hard drive, including your downloaded files.
Let me know if this helps.
Take care and have a nice day.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply and sorry for the delay In response. These steps did not work, I’ve tried this many times now and I’ve not had any success. The power lights indicate somethings happening when I press the buttons, but once released it just goes back to its unresponsive state. No display or any signs of life besides backlight on the keyboard when keys are pressed.
thanks,
alex
