Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thanks for explaining what’s happening. A Chromebook showing only a flashing white power light but not booting usually points to a deeper system issue—often with the battery, embedded controller (EC), or the main board.
Since you’ve already tried a hard reset, here are the next things you can attempt:
1. Check Battery and Power
Make sure you’re using the original charger that came with the Chromebook.
Leave the Chromebook plugged in for at least 30 minutes before trying to power on again. Sometimes the battery needs a minimum charge to boot.
Try a different wall outlet and, if possible, another compatible charger to rule out power supply issues.
2. EC Reset (Embedded Controller)
Turn off the Chromebook completely.
Press and hold Refresh + Power for about 10 seconds, then release.
If it doesn’t respond, try Esc + Refresh + Power to see if it opens the recovery screen.
3. Attempt Recovery Mode
With the Chromebook powered off, press and hold Esc + Refresh, then tap the Power button.
If the recovery screen appears, you can reinstall ChromeOS using a USB recovery drive. (Google has a Chromebook Recovery Utility).
4. Remove External Devices
Disconnect USB drives, SD cards, and peripherals.
Try powering it on again—sometimes a faulty device can prevent startup.
5. Check for Signs of Life
Listen for fan spin or drive clicks when pressing power.
If there’s absolutely no display or boot logo even after the above steps, it’s likely hardware-related.
6. Possible Hardware Failure
If the Chromebook still won’t power on, it may be a battery, mainboard, or internal component failure. Since it does receive power (flashing light), the system is at least partially alive, but it isn’t passing startup checks.
At this point, the best step would be to contact support for a repair, especially if it’s under warranty.
Would you like me to show you how to create the ChromeOS recovery USB so you can test if it’s just a corrupted operating system before considering a repair?
