Computer turns on, but screen is blank

My laptop turns on but does not make the spinning/fan sound. The screen is black. What could be wrong and how do I fix it?

Hi

First hard reset the laptop using HP keyboard shortcut for hard reset, second reset CMOS battery by replacing CMOS cell for 30 seconds and put it back in. this will reset the bios  to origional.

have you checked fan , maybe processor is  getting heated up due to fan problem and not spinning. Also check using universal adapter to charge the laptop or check for any defect in AC charger.
