Computer asked to do memory training. I pressed enter. Computer turned off no lights or sound from it. After more than 15m I tried to turned it on and it doesn’t work. Tried to hold 1m on the turn on button but still doesn’t work (tried connected and on battery). Tried using window key +v+ turn on button or the window key+b+turn on for 1 minute and still nothing. Any suggestions?

Hi @

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

If your HP laptop will not turn on after attempting memory training, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

Power Drain Reset

  • Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Hold the power button for 30–60 seconds to discharge residual power.
  • Reconnect only the AC adapter (leave battery out if possible) and try powering on.

External Boot Attempt

  • If the system powers on but doesn’t POST, try booting with minimal hardware:
  • Only CPU, one RAM stick, and integrated graphics (if available).
  • Disconnect peripherals and the dock.
  • This helps rule out conflicts.

CMOS/BIOS Reset

  • Disconnect power and battery.
  • Locate the CMOS battery (coin cell) on the motherboard.
  • Remove it for 5–10 minutes, then reinsert.
  • This forces the BIOS to reset and may clear the failed memory training state.

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
