HP 255 G8 Notebook PC (347S4AV)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi everyone,

I hope someone can assist me with an issue I'm experiencing with my HP notebook.

Product Information:

  • Model: HP 255 G8
  • Serial Number: [personal info removed]

What I was doing & experienced: Recently, I attempted to update the BIOS on my HP notebook. During the update process, the laptop shut down unexpectedly, and since then, it fails to boot properly. When I power it on, the screen remains black, and the Caps Lock light flashes intermittently.

Steps to recreate:

  1. Download the BIOS update from the official HP support website.
  2. Follow the provided instructions to initiate the update.
  3. During the update process, the laptop powered off unexpectedly.
  4. Attempt to power on the laptop again, resulting in a black screen and the Caps Lock light flashing intermittently.

Any error messages & details: Unfortunately, there are no specific error messages displayed since the screen remains black. The power light turns on, but there are no beeps or other indicators, just the flashing Caps Lock light.

Recent software or driver changes: The only recent change was the attempt to update the BIOS. There were no other software or driver changes made before this issue occurred.

Your internet connection: The laptop was connected to a wireless network (Wi-Fi) during the update process.

Troubleshooting steps already tried:

  • Performing a hard reset by holding the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Removing and reinserting the battery.
  • Connecting the laptop to an external monitor to see if there's any display output.
  • Using the HP BIOS Recovery Tool to attempt recovery.
  • Attempting to recover the BIOS via a USB drive following HP's instructions.

Unfortunately, none of these steps have resolved the issue. Any guidance or suggestions on how to recover from this BIOS corruption would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!
