HP ENVY Desktop PC TE01-1000i (1K4E8AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

The bios update (October 2023) for my HP Desktop (Windows 11) crashed my computer. The screen is black and the recommended keyboard solutions don't work. Screen remains black. The unit can power on, but I can't do anything without a working screen.  BTW, I am not a tech person, so I need a relatively simple solution.  THANK YOU SO MUCH

Hi @Caarraig1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP ENVY Desktop PC. If your computer is not displaying anything on the screen and you've tried the recommended keyboard solutions without success, here are some relatively simple steps you can try to troubleshoot the problem.

Check the monitor:

  • Ensure that the monitor is powered on.
  • Verify that the monitor is properly connected to the computer's video output. Check the cables and connections to make sure they're secure.
  • If you have access to another monitor, try connecting your computer to that monitor to see if the issue is with the display.

Restart the computer:

  • Press and hold the power button on your computer for about 10 seconds to force a shutdown.
  • Wait a few seconds and then press the power button again to turn the computer back on.

Test Safe Mode:

  • Restart the computer.
  • As soon as the computer starts, repeatedly press the "F8" key or "F10" key (the specific key may vary depending on your computer model) to access the Advanced Boot Options menu.
  • Select "Safe Mode" or "Safe Mode with Networking" if available.
  • If your computer boots into Safe Mode and the screen is visible, this may indicate a software or driver-related issue.

Check for loose hardware:

  • Power off the computer and unplug it from the electrical outlet.
  • Open the computer case and ensure that all internal components like RAM, graphics card, and cables are securely connected.
  • Carefully reseat the RAM and graphics card if applicable.

Perform a System Restore (if applicable):

  • If you suspect a recent software update or installation caused the issue, you can try performing a system restore to a point before the problem occurred.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your suggestions. In the meantime, I needed my computer to work again quickly, so I brought to the local repair  facility.  After their analysis, they told me that the motherboard was bad and need to be replaced.  Can this HP bios update cause the motherboard to fail? The computer is only two years old. Your thoughts?
