Whenever I boot my pc, the HP startup logo is tiled many times all over the screen with lots of pixelation, bright green and pink pixels, etc. However, when attempting to enter one of the startup menus, it does appear, but since the display is so distorted its impossible to navigate. There's also some screen flashing between the pixels and a black screen. It generally seems like a display issue rather than functionality. Also, none of the visual issues persist once it reaches the Windows startup screen.

Hi @Dopio,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're thrilled to have you on board!

I can imagine how unsettling that looks. Seeing the HP logo tiled with bright green and pink pixels before you can even access the menus makes it feel like something serious is failing. The good news is that since Windows loads normally, the core system is likely functioning. Let’s narrow this down carefully.

Before we proceed, could you please share the model name of your device?

Are you using a dedicated graphics card with a monitor, or is the monitor connected directly to the motherboard?

Meanwhile, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Perform a Hard Reset

  • Shut down the PC completely.
  • Disconnect the power cable.
  • Hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect power and turn the PC on.
  • Immediately tap Esc repeatedly to attempt Startup Menu access.
  • This clears temporary hardware states.

Step 2: Test a Different Display Connection

  • Turn off the PC.
  • Disconnect the current display cable.
  • Try a different cable (HDMI/DisplayPort if available).
  • If using a graphics card, try a different output port.
  • Power on and check the HP logo screen.
  • Display distortion before Windows can be cable or port related.

Step 3: Try Integrated Graphics (If Applicable)

  • Turn off the PC.
  • If you have a dedicated GPU, remove it carefully.
  • Connect the monitor to the motherboard video output.
  • Power on and check the startup screen.
  • If distortion disappears, the graphics card may be the cause.

Step 4: Load BIOS Defaults (If Accessible)

  • Power on the PC and tap Esc.
  • Press F10 for BIOS Setup.
  • Press F9 to load default settings.
  • Confirm and exit with F10.
  • If the BIOS display improves after reset, the issue may have been a firmware setting conflict.

Step 5: Update BIOS (If Windows Loads Normally)

  • In Windows, press Windows + R.
  • Type msinfo32 and press Enter.
  • Note the BIOS Version/Date.
  • Visit the HP support page for your exact PC model.
  • Download and install the latest BIOS update.
  • Restart the PC.

Startup logo distortion that resolves once Windows loads often points to firmware-level graphics initialization, which a BIOS update can correct.

After completing these steps, observe whether the distortion still appears before Windows loads.
