Hi @lorineandjuan,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop is stuck on the "Hi there" screen after a reset, it typically means the system setup process has been interrupted or is unable to proceed. Here's a step-by-step guide to resolve this issue.
Restart the Laptop
- Hold down the Power button until the laptop powers off completely.
- Turn it back on and check if the setup screen resumes.
Check for External Devices
- Disconnect all peripherals (USB drives, printers, external mice, etc.).
- Restart the laptop. Sometimes external devices can interfere with the setup process.
Boot into Safe Mode
- Turn off the laptop and power it on again.
- Immediately start pressing the F11 key (or Esc, then select Recovery options) to access recovery options.
- Navigate to Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- Select Safe Mode with Networking and see if you can complete the setup.
Reset Again (if Safe Mode Fails)
If you're still stuck:
- Boot into recovery by pressing F11 during startup.
- Select Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
- Choose Remove everything for a fresh reset.
- Let the process complete and try setup again.
Update BIOS (if setup doesn't proceed)
An outdated or corrupted BIOS may cause issues:
- Visit HP's support site using another device.
- Download the BIOS update file for your laptop model.
- Follow HP's instructions to update the BIOS via a USB drive.
Reinstall Windows
If the issue persists, you might need to reinstall Windows:
- Use another computer to create a bootable Windows installation USB (using tools like Microsoft Media Creation Tool).
- Insert the USB into your laptop and boot from it (press Esc or F9 to access the boot menu).
- Reinstall Windows from scratch.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
