my laptop needs the power button pressed twice since upgrading to latest BIOS F.72 Rev A
This was not happening with the previous BIOS.
Reproduction steps:
1. power mains attached,
2. windows 10 x64 previously shut down.
3. Laptop is off/cold
first press of power button... (1 brief press)
4 seconds inactive delay no signs of life...
Power button light comes on
screen comes on with HP logo, and Wifi button light is orange
a couple of seconds and wifi button light goes off and screen goes off
half second passes and then power button light goes out.
no further activity.
second press of power button (1 brief press)
4 seconds inactive delay no signs of life...
Power button light comes on
Tab button light flicks once
screen comes on with HP logo, and Wifi button light is orange
windows 10 circular dots appear under HP logo on screen,
tab button flickers white once, wifi button light turns white
Windows 10 boots successfully to login screen
any idea why BIOS fails the first boot attempt every time? any fix?

Hi @Praveen196
I see Window key + B does a BIOS update? I already have the latest... F72.Rev A.
I found a solution:
I found the double power button press/boot is needed for the following 2 situations:
1. when windows fast boot is enabled and the laptop was previously shut down
2. when the laptop was previously told to hibernate.
I disabled windows fast boot, and only one press was needed when the laptop was previously shut down. I found hibernate was still requiring 2 power button presses/boots.
So..... It seemed something wrong with windows resuming as this is what hibenate and fast boot do (rather than a real cold shut down), after searching the web I found both fast boot and hibernate use hiberfil.sys, I used a command to turn off hibernate which deletes the file and then enable it which creates a new file.
With that file renewed and testing other settings, I re-enabled windows fast boot, and now shut down and hibenate work with one power button press! see if this fixes it long term..... Happy to close the thread for now.

@hpenvy15-j144na Welcome to HP Community!
I understand that you have a double Power Button press to boot.
Do not worry. I will try to fix the issue.
Please perform the below steps and check.
Press the Windows key and then followed by the key "B" this time and then the power button for around 3-4 seconds, then release the power button and continue to hold windows+B for 3-4 seconds more.
If the issue still persists, perform the system restore.
