HP EliteBook x360 1040 G6 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 11

I have a new M.2 SSD (2TB capacity WD Blue SN580).

I cloned the existing Windows 11 installation to this drive using Macurium Reflect.

The drive was connected to the laptop using a USB enclosure to carry out this task.  t. I removed the current OS SSD and placed the cloned drive in the M.2 slot.

On rebooting I am asked to enter the drivelock password. I do not know what this password would be, I have not set it (new drive).

I have no settings in the BIOS to enable drivelock.

There is no password set on the BIOS.

On rebooting with the original drive, I can connect to the new SSD using the enclosure.

I can read from the drive, I can write to the drive.

I can boot from the drive using the enclosure.

If the drivelock password was set, I should not be able to read or write to the drive via a USB enclosure.

Please review and advise if this is a known issue. Please advise of any troubleshooting steps I can take to diagnose the natuire of this issue.

Thanks, Murray

I have the same problem. I have installed Linux on the SN580 in a Dell 7060 micro, absolutely no problems, a drivelock was never set. When I install it in my EliteDesk 800 G5 USFF I get the question for the Drivelock password. If I install the SSD in a Gigabyte Brix, Linux starts immediately without a password. I even have another empty SN580 that has not been used yet, even this one immediately brings up the Drivelock query in HP.

A old 960 EVO with installed Windows boots without issues...

That's really helpful, I appreciate your response.

Thanks again 🙂

If anyone from HP is monitoring this board, please respond to this issue.

From the information here it is apparent that this is a bug with the HP firmware/BIOS/ that is causing this version of drive to be unusable in HP laptops.

I'd appreciate acknowledgement of this and some indication of when it is likely to be fixed.

Update: With a Sabrent USB Enclosure i can use the SSD in the HP without problems
