Elitebook 745
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have been helping my daughter clear up her Elitebook files and install a new anti-virus.

To be extra helpful I saw the HP Assistant automatically updates drivers and the BIOS.

Stupidly I selected the BIOS update without knowing that at the end of the process it warns that that after restart the BIOS password will need to be entered.

Of course my daughter does not know her BIOS password.

Why should she. She's not a business who is worried about someone accessing her laptop, she's a student.

She doesn't even know the BIOS exists.

We bought the laptop because we liked the hardware. Not the BIOS security.

I have read that maybe the BIOS can be reset by removing the CMOS battery but I can't believe that it can be so easy.

Can anyone advise if there is a way round this problem or do we have to buy a new laptop for the sake of an unnecessary security feature?

Regards

Don

PS I have not restarted the laptop yet.
