Hi,
My HP Elitebook 8530w was using 32 Bit Windows 10, so to keep up to date I upgraded the RAM to 8GB and bought Windows 10 64 BIT.
I have saved my data to the cloud and want to boot the new OS from the USB supplied by Microsoft.
To Boot from USB I need to adjust the BIOS setting. However, when I try to enter BIOS (pressing F10 on startup) I am prompted for a BIOS password. I do not have the password (or have lost it over the years, since I got the machine in 2011!).
I have tried to removed the RTC battery, this hasn't worked. HP chat won;t talk to me becise the machine is old.
Can anyone help me to update my machine please? Ideally I do not need a password on the BIOS (I didn't used to have one until I mistakenly reinstalled Windows 10 32 Bit last week)

Unlike with desktops, removing the CMOS battery in laptops will do nothing to reset the BIOS password.
Sorry, we are no longer able to provide any assistance with password issues. The Community Policies changed this March such that we are now not permitted to assist customers with Admin or BIOS (i.e., Power On) password issues.
In fact, according to the Community's Rules of Participation (which you can read from here: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/custom/page/page-id/hp.rulespage😞
4d. No posts shall include instructions or directions intended to bypass or subvert security measures, including passwords, locking mechanisms, fingerprint scans, etc., or to bypass any safety measures.
For assistance NOW, you have to contact your regional HP Customer Support location directly as they will confirm ownership of the PC before providing any assistance -- something we are not able to do from here.
If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1
If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html
NOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while!
Good Luck
