BOOT error responseBOOT error responsehpBLUEerror.jpghpBIOSconfig.jpg

My laptop would not boot.  I ran all of the diagnostics.  After calibrating the battery, every diagnostic is a pass.

I created a boot repair USB disk from the HP Cloud on the MicroSoft store.  I got the error about the configuration.  The BIOS looks ok to me but I show it above for those more knowledgeable.

I downloaded SP110609, the RST driver,  and put it on the boot disk but nothing changed.  My computer is out of warranty (:

Can we fix this?

Hi @COBES,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're facing a complex issue with Intel Smart Response Technology (SRT) and your HP Spectre x360 - 13t that isn't booting. Since diagnostics have passed and you've attempted a boot repair, let's work through the steps to get it back up and running. Here's what we can try.

Steps to Resolve Intel Smart Response Technology Boot Issue

Reset BIOS Settings:

  • Enter BIOS (usually by pressing Esc, F10, or Del while the system boots).
  • Reset to Default: Look for an option like "Load Setup Defaults" or "Reset BIOS Settings to Default."
  • Make sure that Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) is enabled in the BIOS, and if you had previously enabled Intel Smart Response Technology, ensure it's still turned on.

Check Drive Mode in BIOS:

  • Verify if the SATA mode is set to RAID or AHCI. If it's set to RAID, try switching to AHCI.
  • If changing the SATA mode, sometimes Windows needs to be prepared in advance for this, so switching may trigger a boot loop. You can switch back to RAID if needed.

Repair Bootloader:

  • Since you have already created a boot repair USB, boot from it and use the following steps to fix the bootloader:
  • Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Command Prompt.
  • Run these commands to repair the bootloader:

bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /scanos
bootrec /rebuildbcd

  • Restart the computer and check if it boots correctly.

Install Intel RST Driver in Recovery:

  • Since you downloaded the Intel RST driver, you need to inject it while booting from the recovery USB.
  • Boot from your USB recovery disk.
  • Once you're in the repair environment, select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Command Prompt.
  • From there, navigate to the directory where you have the Intel RST drivers (on the USB):

cd [drive letter]:\path\to\RST

  • Use the diskpart command to check if your storage device is listed correctly:

diskpart
list disk

  • Exit diskpart and attempt to load the RST drivers from the USB to your system:

drvload [path to .inf file]

  • This may allow Windows to recognize your drive and correct the boot issue.

Rebuild Intel SRT Array (If Relevant):

  • If you were using Intel Smart Response Technology (SRT) with a caching SSD, the array may need to be rebuilt. From the BIOS, check if the caching setup is properly recognized.
  • If needed, reinitialize the cache in the Intel RST interface in the BIOS.

Thank you. I have read through the steps so that I have some idea in advance of what I will be doing.

I am trying to figure out what I need to do in the BIOS after I set it to defaults.  I found this link to the 5 accessible BIOS screens on HP support for my model :pdf link .

I only know about Main, Security, System Configuration, Boot Options, Exit.  The only option I see on System Configuration is to Enable/Disable Virtualization Technology.  I can find nothing else that might be "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" or "Drive Mode"

Are there hidden BIOS screens which have the options  "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" or "Drive Mode"?

I found a post on this forum which says that advanced BIOS settings are locked on consumer PC's.   If true, then I will not be able to repair my laptop.
