Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi: I posted this under Operating System and the one respondent wasn't able to help.

So I will try again.

The laptop is new to me and I have been updating drivers etc. available from the HP support site for this laptop. I downloaded sp 84891 and ran it. The current Bios is F.85. A later version is available with improved security.  All goes well and a final message says Reboot to complete update. I restart and everything works, but the Bios is still stuck on F.85.

I've tried older Bios updates thinking that they may be necesssary before jumping to F.91. All fail.

Can anyone help please for I feel that security improvements are important.

Is it possible that F.85 IS the latest Bios availabe and sp 84891 only works on a different laptop?

Thanks.

Donald

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community! I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I understand you are having issues with the Bios not loading on your HP notebook. Don't worry I'll be really glad to help you with this,

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you recently made any changes on the PC before the issue started?

Have you tried to perform a Bios recovery?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Start with a hard reset to release any excessive static on the PC:

  • If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.

If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.

  • With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.

  • With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.

  • Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.

Attempt to reset or recover the existing BIOS (if the recent update was interrupted): Click here

Step 1: Recover the BIOS using a key press combination

Step 2: Download a replacement BIOS file

Step 3: Create a BIOS recovery flash drive

Step 1: Verify the current BIOS version installed and the correct ROM Family SSID for your PC

Step 2: Find the BIOS updates

Step 3: Download and install the BIOS update

Let me know if those steps worked for you.

If they did, that’s awesome!

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!

Good Luck.

Hmm, you seem to have misread my post. I haven't lost anything, I am merely trying to update the Bios.

As I said, the updater downloads, it appears to run correctly - a big blue tick and a message to restart the laptop. Everythng works except that the Bios is not updated. It is still at F.85

So, why does the updater not work? I even disabled all anti-virus programs, still didn't work.

I've only just got the laptop and I'm going through the usual round of Microsoft and HP updates. HP shows a Bois update to F.91 which I downloaded - sp 84891

Again, any idea why the updater does not update the Bios? I've seen a variety of posts about HP Bios updaters not working.

The details for the update says it addresses security issues which is why I'm concerned.

Thanks

Donald

I believe that the suggestions provided there will be helpful.

You received a "boiler-plate" response from an ID that commonly posts "boiler-plate" responses.  Sigh.

> I've only just got the laptop.

You received a warranty from HP with your purchase of your HP computer.

Click the "Contact HP" hyperlink near the bottom-left of this web-page, to get support.

Or, run the built-in "HP Support Assistant" software.  It should offer the BIOS-update, and install it.
