I shutdown my Envy computer using Linux Mint and closed the lid and put it in my knapsack. Three hours later it wouldn’t boot, and when I plugged in the charger neither the orange or the white light came on. Any clue how to proceed?

Hi @KKD999,

I understand your HP Envy will not power on and shows no charging light after being shut down and placed in a bag. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Perform a hard reset (power drain)
Disconnect the charger and any external devices.
Press and hold the power button for 20–30 seconds, then reconnect the charger and try powering on.

Check the charger and power source
Plug the charger directly into a known working wall outlet (avoid power strips).
If possible, test with another compatible HP charger to rule out an adapter failure.

Inspect the charging port and cable
Look closely at the charging port for dust, debris, or looseness.
A loose or damaged port can prevent both charging and the LED from turning on.

Try powering on with the lid open
Open the lid fully and press the power button for 5–10 seconds.
Some systems do not respond properly to lid-closed power attempts.

Test with minimal power
Disconnect the charger again and try turning the laptop on using battery power only.
Then reconnect the charger and retry—this can help reset internal power states.

Check for signs of life
After pressing the power button, listen for fan noise, feel for warmth near the vents, or watch for screen backlight flicker.
Even brief signs help determine if the system is receiving power.

Allow time for battery recovery
Leave the charger connected for at least 30–60 minutes, even if no light appears.
A deeply discharged battery may not show the charging LED immediately.

Attempt a BIOS recovery start
With the charger connected, press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold the power button for 2–3 seconds and release it (keep Windows + B pressed for a few more seconds).
If the system responds, this indicates the laptop is receiving power but not booting normally.

I hope this helps.
