HP ENVY dv7t-7300 CTO Select
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So I decided to upgrade my harddrive an ssd, so I bought a 120gb ssd and a 1tb hdd, and I ordered a second sata cable. The problem is that whenever the cable is plugged in the laptop wont power on. Even if it isn't plugged into a hard drive, it just doesn't do anything. The charging light comes on when the cord is plugged in but pressing the power button is non responsive.

Well I realized that in my question I said I have a dv7-7300 and then I posted a link to the cord that I bought, realizing that it was for a dv7-6000 series. So I bought a cable for my specific series and now the laptop will power on but now the second hdd isn't showing up.

@Jshauk

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have an HP ENVY dv7t-7300 laptop. I read that when you add an SSD drive and a 1TB HDD and connect the SATA cable to the laptop, the laptop does not power on. Even if the SATA cable is not plugged in to the hard drive, the laptop does not power on. The charging light is on indicating that the laptop is receiving power.

To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Do you have a different SATA cable to check with?
  • Can you connect either the SSD or the hard drive and vice versa and check if the laptop powers on?

Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Remove the battery out.
  • Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.
  • Power ON the laptop.

You ma refer to the detailed maintenance and service guide of the laptop to check if the hard drive and the SSD are installed correctly.

I hope this information helps. Let me know how it goes. Cheers! 🙂

Fixed this problem as well, just had to go to disk managment and format the new drive.
