HP Envy 17T-J100 Quad Edition CTO Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
After updating the bios and some other drive with the recommended updates fro support..hp.com my system will no longer boot not even in safe mode. Upon removing the batter I noticed the information listed there including the system ID or rev was 1968. It is my understanding that the correct bios would then be 01968. The bios installed from the recommended hp download are 0166. Are the updates recommended by HP for my system incorrect? If not pleas explain. What can I do now to restore my system

I was getting the blue recovery screen error 0x0000098, Boot Configuration Data file missing required information or does not contain a valid OS entry. Today I ran chkdsk /b that ran for about 4 hours. I then ran the windows 10 media creation tool from usb flash drive clicked repair went to the command prompt and used bootrec fixmb, fixboot and rebuildbcd and it finally found my operating system. I had done this several times before with no success. I’m glad I tried chkdsk /b. I then exited command prompt, restarted and the system booted right up. I lost a few programs like office and I’m getting an error message that the mail client cannot fulfill the message request. Please run Microsoft outlook, so I have to reinstall that but so far that’s all I discover is wrong.

Sounds like the BIOS update didn't complete? If so try unhooking the hard drive  and power on to see if it completes.  Then shut down and reattach drive.

Correction to my original post - )The bios installed from the recommended HP download are 01966) How do I unhook the hard drive? And is it even the correct bios update for my system considering the rev of my stem is 1968 and the bios download is 1966

Did you download the BIOS update from your Support page here? If so it should be the correct one.Normally a BIOS update will stop and report that it is not compatible-or will say it is blocked on your laptop.

Maintenance and Service Guide is here. Chapter 5,page 41 shows how to disconnect the cable from hard drive. No need to completelely remove the drive for the test to see if BIOS update will complete:

So far I have tried rolling back the bios, System Restore, Go back to previous version, system image recovery and startup repair in hp recovery environment and nothing works. I’ve also unhooked the hard drives and powered on and that doesn’t work. Any other suggestions?

What kind of error message are you getting when your  computer tries to load Windows? Have you tried going into the BIOS and resetting everything to factory defaults? Maybe the way the PC boots has changed. Was is set for legacy or UEFI?  If it was set one way, and the BIOS settings changed,  you may get a blue screen at bootup.
