Recently my x360 has stopped charging while on. If off it will charge. This behavior persists with different HP branded power adapters.
I've seen several 'fixes' for the issue, and tried them all:
- Use a different power adapter
- Update BIOS (was already running F.10, but re-applied anyway)
- Reset BIOS via Win-B at power on
- Removal of items under 'Battery' in hardware manager and rebooting
- Harsh language
None of these items have resolved the issue. I'm assuming that because it charges while powered down that the battery itself and the charging hardware are fine and not at issue.
The only unusual thing is that I'm running Win11 Preview (Dev) version of Windows 11 on this machine.
Anyone have any suggestions that aren't on the above list? Alternatively is there a USB C power adapter that will work with this model that I can test with?

Hi @Tukamok,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Envy x360 laptop is not charging when it's running but charges when it's powered off, there could be a few potential reasons for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.
- Check the Power Adapter and Cable: Make sure the power adapter and charging cable are functioning properly. Inspect the cable for any visible damage, such as fraying or kinks. Also, try using a different power outlet and adapter to see if the issue persists.
- Overheating and Thermal Throttling: Laptops are designed to reduce power consumption when they are overheating. If your laptop is running too hot, it might throttle performance to cool down, which could impact charging. Make sure your laptop's cooling system is working efficiently. You can also try using a laptop cooling pad to help dissipate heat.
- Background Applications and Processes: Sometimes, certain applications or processes might be using a significant amount of CPU power, causing the laptop to consume more power than it can receive from the charger. Check Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) to see if there are any resource-intensive applications running in the background. Close unnecessary applications or processes.
- BIOS and Driver Updates: Outdated BIOS or drivers can sometimes cause power-related issues. Check the HP support website for any available BIOS and driver updates for your laptop model. Install any updates and see if the issue is resolved.
- Power Settings: Windows has power settings that can affect charging behavior. Make sure your power plan settings are configured properly. You can access these settings by right-clicking the battery icon in the system tray and selecting "Power Options."
- Battery Calibration: Sometimes, a battery calibration can help resolve charging issues. To calibrate the battery, you can fully charge it while the laptop is off, then use the laptop until the battery is completely drained. Repeat this process a couple of times to ensure the battery capacity readings are accurate.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
