HP G42
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I recently found an old hp g42 laptop, but when I plug in the charger and try turning it on, the screen remains black with a single beep then with the cap-lock light flashing once every few seconds. What can I do to resolve this?

This looks like an issue with the CPU.

Hi, sorry for my earlier post, but what happens now is it just a black screen at startup without any beeps or blinks. However, when I try the power button and Win + B keys, the capslock begins blinking twice every few seconds, so may I know what I can do to revive this laptop? Thank you.

@2oldlaptops,

If the caps lock light is blinking twice it means BIOS corruption.

I recommend you follow the steps in the below article and try recovering the BIOS and check if it helps.

Hi. Thank you for replying, but I have already tried the USB recovery tool. However, when the recovery USB is plugged in and I try the power button + Win and B keys combination, there's only a series of beeps then it returns to the flashing caplock twice every few seconds.

@2oldlaptops,

It looks like a hardware issue and I suggest you contact support to check the available service options for your computer.

Here is how you can get in touch with tech support.

1)Click on this link – www.hp.com/contacthp/

2)Select the product type.

3)Enter the serial number of your device or select let HP detect your product option.

4)Select the country from the drop-down.

5)You should see the HP phone support number or Chat option listed.

Cheers!
