Pavillion
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hello!

When I start up my computer (Pavillion ProtectSmart, Windows 8/8.1) I got the hard disk error message 301.

On a YouTube video I saw someone solving that by going to f10 settings and enabling 'legacy support'. I did this as well.

Now, however, I get another error message:

"The boot configuration data for your pc is missing or containt errors"

I don't know what to do here. Can you help me?

Hi,

The first problem (301) usually indicates a hard drive problem. The second error could be because of the enabling of legacy support (not uefi).

First, I would try to perform hardware diagnostics on the PC. You can try the fast test. In the doc below look under heading "performing tests when Windows does not start"

Let me know,

Hey David!

I cannot start the fast test because I cannot start up my pc. It only stays in the realm of black screens and error messages.

Turn off PC by holding power button. Turn on the PC and keep pressing ESC until startup menu appears. Press F2 to enter diagnostics. Perform test.

This should work as you are getting error message meaning the PC is booting,

Let me know,

David
