My house computer won't start up it's stuck on blue screen when starting up and before the blue screen it says hard disc error and I don't know how to fix it. It's model number 15-af131dx I know it's wondows 10 but I don't know if it's 64 or 32 bit. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

The error message indicates its an issue with Hard Drive.

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Are you able to boot into windows desktop?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps:

Perform a Hard reset on the notebook: A power reset (or hard restart) clears all information from the computer's memory without erasing any personal data.

Next Step: BIOS Defaults - (After hard reset follow the below steps while starting the computer)
1) Shutdown the computer.
2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.
3) Press F10 once for BIOS.
4) Press F9 for BIOS defaults.
5) Press F10 to save and exit. this does not fix the issue. continue the next step:

Next: Test the hard drive using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics

  1. Plug the AC adapter into the computer.
  2. Press the Power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  3. Turn on the computer and start pressing Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  4. When the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics menu displays, click Component Tests.
  5. In the Component Tests menu, click Hard Drive.
  6. Click Quick Test.
  7. Click Run once. If the computer has more than one hard drive, click Test All Hard Drives. The Quick Test begins.
  8. If the computer has more than one hard drive, select the drive you want to test. To test all the hard drives, select Test All Hard Drives.

When a test is complete, the results display on the screen. Test results are also available in the Test Logs on the main menu.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
