My HP Spectra 360 staring crashing randomly with "blue screen" message: "hard drive not found". This was rather disconcerting. Prior to and during this time I noticed that the laptop seemed to be running hotter than usual. I found that if I let the laptop sit for a while, it would successfully reboot. What a relief! I assumed it was cooling off. I tried doing things to help the air circulation around the laptop to aid cooling. This helped a little, but it would still crash, but not as often, I think. I inquired on this forum about the problem but could not find anything exactly like what I was experiencing. I did find a fix for diagnosing a crash problem. The first step was to perform a "hard reset" and go from there with diagnostic steps. I decided to try the hard reset. After the reset, I monitored the laptop over the next few days and found that the "blue screen" crashing had ceased entirely, and it was running cooler. Problem solved! It's been a couple of weeks since, and the problem is still absent.

Correction to the above: The "blue screen" error message was actually "Boot device not found", not "Hard drive not found".
After at least 2 weeks of crash free operation the aforementioned system had a "blue screen" crash today. I will try another hard reset. If I only have to do a hard reset every 2 or 3 weeks, I can probably live with it.
