Hi @Cyera

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for explaining the situation—it’s frustrating when a device you haven’t used in a while locks you out and makes it difficult to get back in.

Let’s walk through a few steps to reset your password and regain access to your HP Stream laptop running Windows 11.

Steps to reset your Windows 11 password

1. Determine if you're using a Microsoft account

If your login screen shows an email address, you’re using a Microsoft account.

2. If you're using a local account

If the login screen shows only a username (no email), it’s a local account.

  • On the login screen, click I forgot my password
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to reset using security questions
  • If you don’t remember the answers, proceed to step 3

3. Use a password reset disk (if created earlier)

If you created a reset disk before forgetting the password:

  • Insert the disk
  • Click Reset password on the login screen
  • Follow the prompts to create a new password

4. Reset the laptop using recovery options

If none of the above work:

  • Power on the laptop and press Esc repeatedly, then F11
  • Select Troubleshoot > Reset this PC
  • Choose Keep my files or Remove everything
  • Follow the prompts to complete the reset

Let me know which login type you’re using or if you see any specific error messages. Once we confirm that, I can guide the next steps more precisely.
