Hi @Heavengirl,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your new HP laptop froze during the initial setup and is unresponsive, here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Unplug the laptop from the power adapter.
  • Disconnect any external devices such as USB drives, external keyboards, or mice.
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to force a shutdown.
  • Plug the laptop back into the power adapter.
  • Press the power button to turn the laptop back on and see if it resumes the setup process.

2. Attempt a Safe Mode Boot

  • If the laptop is still unresponsive, hold the power button until it shuts down.
  • Turn on the laptop and immediately start pressing the Esc or F8 key repeatedly to enter the startup menu. (You may need to try different function keys like F2, F10, or F12 depending on the model.)
  • If you can access the startup menu, select the option to boot into Safe Mode and see if it allows you to complete the initial setup.

3. Use Recovery Options

  • Again, ensure the laptop is turned off.
  • Turn on the laptop and immediately start pressing the F11 key repeatedly to enter the HP Recovery Manager.
  • Select the option to perform a system recovery. This will reset the laptop to its factory settings, allowing you to start the setup process again.

4. Create a Windows Installation Media (if needed)

If the above steps do not work, you may need to use a Windows installation media to perform a fresh install of the operating system:

  • On another computer, download the Windows Media Creation Tool from the Microsoft website.
  • Use the tool to create a bootable USB drive with the Windows installation files.
  • Insert the USB drive into the laptop, turn it on, and immediately start pressing the Esc or F12 key to enter the boot menu.
  • Select the USB drive as the boot device and follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall Windows.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
