I have a g62 laptop that will not boot up.
The conditions are with a fairly recently fitted battery, with the power adaptor plugged in with white light showing (good charge) and starting with hard reset and no operating lights on.
Pressing the power button leads to the power button light, the WiFi light, the network light and the fan all pulse on for about half a second every 5 seconds.
There is no hard drive activity (no light).
I did try using a bootable Thumb drive, no change.
I don't get any CAPSLOCK light flashes so I don't think the diagnostics can be working.
Has anyone any idea how to find what the problem is please.

Hi @aydeepee,
Thank you for your response,
If your HP G62 laptop is not booting, and you're experiencing pulsing lights on the power button, network, and WiFi lights, along with the fan pulsing every few seconds, it may indicate a hardware issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Disconnect the laptop from any power source and remove the battery if possible.
- Hold the power button down for about 15-20 seconds to drain any residual power.
- Reconnect the battery and power source and try turning the laptop on.
Check for Loose Connections:
- Make sure all external devices (USB drives, external hard drives, etc.) are disconnected.
- Check the laptop's power cable and make sure it's securely connected.
Inspect the RAM:
- Faulty or improperly seated RAM can cause booting issues. Remove and reseat the RAM modules to ensure they are properly connected.
Check for Overheating:
- Overheating can cause laptops to behave abnormally. Make sure the laptop's vents are clear of dust and debris. You can use compressed air to clean them.
- If the laptop has been running hot, it may need a thermal paste replacement on the CPU and GPU.
Test the AC Adapter:
- Ensure that the AC adapter is working properly. You can test it by using a multimeter to check the voltage output. If it's faulty, replace it.
External Monitor Test:
- Connect your laptop to an external monitor using the appropriate cable. If the laptop's display is the issue, you should be able to see the display on the external monitor.
Battery Test:
- If your laptop's battery is old or faulty, it may cause booting problems. Try booting the laptop without the battery, using only the power adapter.
BIOS Reset:
- You can try resetting the BIOS settings to default by accessing the BIOS/UEFI setup and selecting the "Load Setup Defaults" or similar option.
Check for Beep Codes or LED Error Codes:
- Some laptops have built-in diagnostics that can provide error codes in the form of beeps or LED flashes. Refer to your laptop's manual to decipher these codes.
Hardware Inspection:
- If none of the above steps work, it's possible that there's a hardware failure. It could be a motherboard, CPU, or other critical component issue.
