HP Notebook - 15-bw011dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm having issues with my HP laptop windows 10 64bit os. for some reason now when I turn on my laptop it's asking me to "Enter Administrator Password or Power On Password"  which apparently I don't seem to have or remember now!? For the longest I just had to use a 4 digit pin to access the LT but now it won't take it. I can't run any of the bios diagnostics or OS diagnostics repair or recovery because it keeps prompting me for the Admin PW.

How can I find or get into my LT so I can fix whatever issues I'm having? I've never experienced this sort of thing on any of my PCs before!
Also getting an error message saying "System Disabled [ i  55501429] when entering the pw wrong too many times.

Thank you in advance!!

Hi @98matt_s,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how alarming it is to suddenly see an “Enter Administrator Password or Power On Password” prompt on your HP Notebook - 15-bw011dx, especially when you’ve never set one. The error “System Disabled [i 55501429]” confirms that the BIOS is locked due to an excessive number of incorrect attempts.

🔐 What This Means

Your laptop has a BIOS-level password set, which is different from your Windows login PIN. This password is required before the system can even boot or run diagnostics. If forgotten or unknown, it locks the system and shows a System Disabled code in your case, i 55501429.

How to Fix It

Option 1: Use HP’s Official Unlock Process

HP does not provide master passwords publicly for security reasons. You’ll need to contact HP Support directly and provide:

  • Your System Disabled code (55501429)
  • Your laptop’s serial number
  • Proof of ownership (purchase receipt or invoice)

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
