Getting the "BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI Compliant." error. BIOS needs flashing.  Just need to know how to do so.  I have the BIOS USB support, but no go as it doesn't find the flash file to update BIOS.

For goodness sake, please help.

Hi @dwarnock1970

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining the situation so clearly. It’s genuinely frustrating to hit a “BIOS is not fully ACPI compliant” error—especially when your system refuses to boot and the USB recovery doesn’t detect the flash file.

This typically means the BIOS update file isn’t correctly formatted or the USB isn’t structured in a way the system can read during recovery.

Here’s a structured recovery path to help you flash the BIOS successfully:

Step-by-Step BIOS Flash via USB for HP Systems

1. Prepare the USB Drive Properly

  • Use a USB 2.0 drive, 8–32 GB in size.
  • Format the drive to FAT32 (not exFAT or NTFS).
  • Ensure it’s empty before proceeding.

2. Download the Correct BIOS Update

  • Visit the official HP support page for your model:
    HP BIOS Updates & Drivers
  • Enter your product name or serial number.
  • Select your operating system (even if it’s not bootable).
  • Download the BIOS update utility (usually named SPxxxxx.exe).

3. Extract the BIOS Files

  • Run the downloaded .exe file on a working Windows PC.
  • When prompted, choose Extract instead of Install.
  • Extract to a folder on your desktop.
  • Inside the folder, locate files like:
    • BIOS.bin or *.bin
    • HPBIOSUpdate
    • Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current\ or New\

Copy the entire folder structure to the root of your USB drive.

4. Initiate BIOS Recovery

  • Insert the USB into your affected laptop.
  • Press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold the power button for 2–3 seconds.
  • Release the power button but continue holding Windows + B until the screen flashes or you hear beeps.
  • The BIOS recovery screen should appear and begin flashing automatically.

You’ve already taken the right step by preparing a USB recovery—let’s make sure your system accepts the update and boots cleanly again.
