Hi @Prodell,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your laptop is getting stuck on a grey screen after displaying the HP logo during startup, it could be indicative of various issues. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the problem.
Restart Your Laptop:
- Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve minor glitches. Turn off your laptop, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on.
Boot into Safe Mode:
- Restart your laptop and try booting into Safe Mode. Safe Mode loads the operating system with a minimal set of drivers, which can help identify if the issue is related to a specific driver or software. If your laptop boots successfully in Safe Mode, the problem may be caused by a third-party application or driver.
Check for External Devices:
- Disconnect any external devices (USB drives, external hard drives, printers, etc.) from your laptop and see if it boots normally. Sometimes, a malfunctioning external device can cause startup issues.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Turn off your laptop, disconnect the power adapter, and remove the battery (if applicable). Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds. Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then try turning on your laptop.
Check the Display Connection:
- Ensure that the display cable is securely connected to both your laptop and the display. If the cable is loose or damaged, it can cause display issues.
Run Built-in Diagnostics:
- Many laptops come with built-in diagnostic tools. Check your laptop's manual or support website for instructions on how to run hardware diagnostics. This can help identify if there are any hardware issues.
Update Graphics Drivers:
- Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers can cause display issues. If possible, boot into Safe Mode and update your graphics drivers.
Perform System Restore:
- If you recently installed new software or updates and the issue started after that, you can try performing a system restore to revert your system to a previous working state.
Check for Disk Errors:
- Use the built-in Windows tools to check for disk errors. Open a Command Prompt as an administrator and run the command chkdsk /f to check for and fix disk errors.
Reinstall the Operating System:
- If none of the above steps work, you may need to consider reinstalling the operating system. Backup your important data before proceeding with a reinstall.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
