My HDD failed after doing a memory test.
I replaced the battery a month or so ago and after running it down yesterday, I plugged it in and saw that it wasn’t charging. I changed cords, still not charging. I read that new batteries needed to be calibrated so I looked at HP’s process and followed the instructions to loop the memory test. After it started, I realized there was still 10+% of battery power remaining so I planned to use the computer and discharge the battery more quickly; I canceled the memory test and allowed the software to reboot the computer. The computer would not reboot. It doesn’t get past the HP logo, and just stays in the diagnostic/repair process.
I tested the HDD and got this error: Short DST failed: RU2BS8-8KRAB5-MFPUQJ-60R203
So, the HDD failed while running HP’s diagnostic software, or is there a glitch which makes the computer think the HDD is bad but it’s actually fine...?

Sadly to say: Most of the time the 24 char disk failure id indicates the HDD is failing and it needs to be replaced.. Is it still under warranty ? If NOT, you have to replace yourself then rebuild your machine.
For (original) Windows 10. Please use Cloud Recovery tool:
