I bought this HP 14 laptop nine months ago, but have never used it. It was intended as a gift, but I decided to get my mom a new iPhone and just kept the laptop as a spare. I charged it fully and went thru the initial setup processes, then I put it aside for nine months. I want to give it to my dad, so I tried to boot it up to make sure it was ready to go.
When I push the power button, nothing happens. When I press and hold the power button for 5-10 seconds, the display flashes for an instant and that's it. I've tried it with an without the AC adapter. Out of the 12+ times I've tried, one time it gave an error message. It only displayed for about 10 seconds before shutting off, but I recall something about "CMOS" and "BIOS configuration". Could the CMOS battery be the issue? I've never known one to die so quickly, but it's an easy enough fix.
The LED next to the plug for the AC adapter is lit when it is plugged in, so I assume that means it is getting power. Or could the adapter possibly be the problem?
