Hi @JPsiced,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I know how frustrating it is when a laptop that was working fine suddenly refuses to boot, especially after a temporary fix. Here's what we recommend for your HP 15-dy0013dx Notebook:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

This clears residual power and resets hardware connections.

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Disconnect the AC adapter and all peripherals (USB drives, printers, etc.).
  • Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds.
  • Reconnect only the AC adapter and try powering it on.

2. Check for Signs of Power

  • Do any lights blink (Caps Lock, power LED)?
  • Do you hear fan noise or see the screen flicker?

If no signs of life, it could be a power delivery issue or a motherboard fault.

3. Try BIOS Recovery

If the screen remains black but the laptop powers on briefly:

  • Press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold the power button for 2–3 seconds.
  • Release all keys and wait. If successful, the BIOS recovery screen should appear.

4. Check the Hard Drive

Since Geek Squad mentioned the hard drive, the drive may be failing or disconnected.

If you're comfortable:

  • Remove the bottom panel (with proper tools).
  • Check if the hard drive is securely connected.
  • If replacing: HP 15-dy0013dx uses a 2.5" SATA SSD or HDD. You can upgrade to a new SSD for better reliability.
