Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP 15-dy1043dx laptop that was purchased in August of 2020 for over $600.  It is now officially a paperweight.  It was being used the other day and all of a sudden it went black and totally lost power.  Now, it refuses to bootup even with known good power adapter.  There is no physical damage to the machine and it definitely does not have any liquid damage.  It has been used primarily on a hard surface with excellent airflow.

To help troubleshoot the issue, the battery has been totally removed and the power has been reset by pressing the power button several times.  No charging lights come on to indicate that the battery is even being charged.  There is also no CMOS battery to remove on this computer - so removing the main battery should have been sufficient to accomplish that.

At least one other system is having this problem (a link to a board being sold on eBay also with no power):

New motherboards are unacceptably expensive for this model - $239.56.  Regardless of whether that would get the system going again, we should not be having to talk about a motherboard replacement on a computer that is only about 5 months out of warranty.

Does anyone else have a similar experience with this model?  I was also be worried about putting a board in here if it's just going to potentially fail again.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I have been searching for potential replacement boards for this model and it would appear that failures are not uncommon on the 15-dy series:
With a damaged part:

Board does not power up:

Board does not power up:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/284508525285

Several (3 boards)- all with no power:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/324216205429

Here is one that says it's overheating and they say that the heatsink is poorly designed - which leads to the failure:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/334208607490
Another 3 failed boards - i3 model:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/384232689767
Another with no power / no video:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/234461664333

Given how many are failed currently on eBay (especially considering most of these should be also within only maybe 2 years old) - can anyone from HP respond to what is being done to rectify this issue?  I would hesitate even purchasing a replacement board at this point unless I could be assured it's not going to fail prematurely.

Thank you.

Holy Cow!!!!!!!!

I was shocked beyond belief when the model number matched mine exactly.

I have the same exact HP laptop, HP 15-dy1043dx, with the same exact problem.  Which, get this, stopped working a few months ago.  Same conditions.  Dry, well ventilated, no physical damage.

I have wasted so much time on this stupid computer!

Mine was purchased January 7, 2021.   So, it ceased working VERY shortly after the 1-year warranty period.

The power light next to the power input is on, and sometimes I can get the Caps Lock to give a blinking code of 3 long and 2 short blinks.    Per HP this is a code for:

“The error indicates embedded controller has timed out waiting for the BIOS to return from system board initialization (end of POST).

The blinks indicate system board failure on your PC.”

Which is exactly what you said.

Let’s go to HP together.

We should compare serial numbers also.

I paid about the same, which is no small purchase.

The time I spent is just killing me.

HP has let us and others down.  Will they care before this goes to social media?

I don’t trust another motherboard.  For the time and aggravation they caused us and others, they owe a computer that is not going to crap shortly out after 1 year.
